# AnimalTrakker® Registry Web Overview Welcome to the AnimalTrakker® Registry Web application. This is the place for members of your registry to submit changes for their animals. The AnimalTrakker® Registry Web program is intended to be hosted on a server that the registry owns or rents via a hosting service. The program will collect animal registry data from farmers and breeders, then send that data to the breed registrar for verification. After approval, the data submissions can be selectively added to the main registry database, facilitating remote registry updates from members worldwide. However, no data is actually changed until the registrar approves - remote registry users cannot change anything in the database on their own. In addition to boosting the security of the registry, this also means that if your registry data or server is ever destroyed - for example, because of a hurricane, flood, tornado, or other issue - it can be restored as long as the registrar has a [[AnimalTrakker® Database Backup Recommended Practices|backup copy]] of the [[AnimalTrakker® Database Overview|database]] stored somewhere safe. Right now, the only registries using this system are the Black, White, and Chocolate Welsh Mountain Sheep registries in North America. Much of the information here is specific to their systems, so it is subject to change based on individual needs. The **basic mode of operation for Registry Web** is as follows: 1. You will choose a task to do. 2. A screen will ask for some or all of the information that the registrar needs to process the transaction, whether that’s to mark an animal [[Deaths|dead]], update an ear tag, add a [[Births|birth]], or modify your animals before you [[Registrations|register]] them. 3. A second screen may appear where you can verify that the data you want to send. 4. Your data will be saved in a file. 5. The registrar will download and process the files from all members in all categories. 6. Any additions or changes to the base database will happen on the [[AnimalTrakker® Registry Desktop Overview|local registrar]] system. Then, a copy is pushed to the website once transactions are complete. ## AnimalTrakker® Registry Web Data Backups One of the registrar's most important roles in maintaining a registry is keeping it secure and active. Our submission-based model is designed to keep your registry secure from external threats and unapproved changes. However, it's up to you to [[AnimalTrakker® Database Backup Recommended Practices|keep your data backed up]] in a safe place. As the registrar, you should aim to always have a backup version of the database stored somewhere safe. Ideally, this should be a piece of hardware that'll remain secure and safe in the event of a tornado, hurricane, internet blackout, or even a simple hosting issue. How and where you choose to back this data up is always up to you, but remember that with [[Start Here|AnimalTrakker®]], your data (and its integrity) is [[AnimalTrakker® Philosophy|always in your hands]]. We recommend you use a standard 3-2-1 system: 3 copies, 2 different technologies, and 1 offsite. ## American Black, Chocolate and White Welsh Mountain Sheep Associations The URLs for the American Black Welsh Mountain Sheep Association, American Chocolate Welsh Mountain Sheep Association, and American White Welsh Mountain Sheep Association registry are the same: [https://registry.welshmountainsheep.net/](https://registry.welshmountainsheep.net/) Our AnimalTrakker® registries are still relatively early software, and the Welsh Mountain Sheep Associations are the only registries currently using AnimalTrakker® for their registry management needs. As such, the documentation found here is based on those registries. Keep in mind as you proceed that new registries may differ slightly from these early examples, especially if they're created for different animal species.
